Cozumel, Mexico

Cozumel is known as a cruise destination today, but that has not always been the case.  Back in 1989 on my 1st trip, Cozumel was just a sleepy scuba diving paradise. Only a few hotels had electricity.  My fondest memory of Cozumel was taking a drive around the island with friends my brother and I made scuba diving. We ate lunch on the beach at a hotel that had no electricity. The owner was just coming out of the water with fresh lobster when we arrived.  The total bill for 4 of us to eat lobster and drink beer for 2 hours was $20.  Yes, $5 a person for lobster and beer.

I have been back to Cozumel twice since then, in 2006 and again in 2013.  These were just port of call day trips on cruises.  It was still a nice stop, I was able to enjoy $1 beer and a fine Cuban cigar while doing a bit of shopping.

I hope you enjoy the photos I have taken of Cozumel over the years.
